1st hw blog: thoughts on digital things edit

I think the idea of technology/digital items is good because it helps us keep up relationships with people so if we have a friend lives far away for instance, we can still keep in touch with them, text them, call them, etc. We can also do a lot of things that are educational with our digital things such as PowerPoint and e-mailing for work purposes. Also, everyone should be able to have fun in their life and these things are fun so i like digital gadgets. Some of the downsides is that news and gossip spreads very quickly nowadays, which can ruin any type of relationship between people because if one person hates another person or hears news about another person, they can send some nasty things via an e-mail blast to many people and then those people tell other people and then there's a scandal which is obviously bad. Also, some people become fanatical about their electronics and check their e-mail every 5 seconds or update their Twitter constantly. It can be very addicting. I was wondering if we mask our true selves behind technological things such as avatars? Will our society one day be overrun by digital items?
Extended: Yesterday was the V.M.A.s on MTV and there was a scandal with Kanye West and Taylor Swift and what happened was that Taylor won an award and was in the middle of giving her speech when Kanye jumped onto the stage unexpectedly and said "i'm sorry, Taylor, but I think Beyonce has the best video." Taylor was left speechless and in tears. The second that happened, Facebook friends statuses exploded with things on how big a jerk Kanye is and their opinions on it and when they showed Lady Gaga and her performance, statuses were all about her and how she looked. People were both watching TV and were on their computers or phones talking about it. This alone shows how obsessed people like myself are when it comes to electronics.

  1. I like how you added the example of the VMAs, its a good example how people are addicted to technology, because its true everyone did make comments on it so quickly, which made people who didnt want the VMA like me curious to the point of going to youtube the next day to see a clip of it, which makes me realize how people are always being influenced by technology to get more addicted to it, maybe next time you can write more about the influence technology has on people.

  2. I liked the way how listed the positives and negatives about electronics/digital items. The main points in your blog were about how electronics are fun and that they provide possiblites for you to communicate with people you might not be able to see everyday.Your post connects to what we've been talking about in class about are electronics good or bad.Your post makes me think about maybe electronics aren't as bad as some people make them seem. Overall good work looking foward to seeing your other ideas.

  3. I like that you focused on the positives of technology more then the negatives.it gives me a different point of view to work with.

Face book does help people get in contact with friends and family members that live far away.

One day i was getting my nails done and i overheard some ladys talking about how they had just signed up for facebook and found a whole bunch of old friends and how it was refreshing tog et in contact with people they went to high school with. They were saying how much they loved facebook and were able to create a reunion.

We should explore the idea of how to keep the positives and improve of the negatives. Using facebook to get in contact with old friends and far away family members but not having to check your facebook 5 times a day.

You posted a good point and made me play devils advocate a little bit. Continue developing this idea :).
